Boeing has completed a 20-minute flight test of its AH-6i reconnaissance helicopter to demonstrate its close-air support and light-attack features as the company prepares for full-scale production.
“This first AH-6 flight in the production configuration takes us closer to delivering an advanced light attack and reconnaissance helicopter that meets the needs of defense forces around the world,” Scott Rudy, Boeing’s AH-6 program director, said Thursday.
The AH-6 is variant of the AH6M, which is flown by special operations forces in the U.S. Army.
Single-turbine AH-6i helicopters work to function as an attack platform against tanks, armored vehicles and enemy fortifications to support allied land-based forces.
Testers operated the AH-6i at low speeds and low elevations, as well as in forward, rearward and sideward flight.
