A joint venture of Lockheed Martin and MBDA has obtained federal certification for a technology that works to identify non-hostile aircraft during combat operations.
The Defense Department‘s International AIMS Program Office has certified the MEADS International-built Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe tool for the Medium Extended Air Defense System, Lockheed said Wednesday.
Dave Berganini, president of MEADS International, said the system is built to provide warfighters with a 360-degree surveillance and to protect up to eight times the coverage area.
MEADS’ platform features surveillance and fire control radars that aim to defend allied pilots against ballistic and cruise missile threats, according to Lockheed.
