The National Science Foundation is pumping $15 million into three projects to develop and assess future Internet systems, FedScoop reported Tuesday.
Various education institutions from across the U.S. have formed three groups to build fresh network architectures, explore alternatives and test new concepts, according to the report.
NSF intends for the pilot networks to bolster security, address service demands and scale the information infrastructure for Internet users, the report says.
The three projects include:
- Deployment-Driven Evaluation and Evolution of the eXpressive Internet Architecture
- Named Data Networking Next Phase
- The Next-Phase MobilityFirst Project – From Architecture and Protocol Design to Advanced Services and Trial Deployments
FedScoop reports the researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, University of California in Los Angeles and Rutgers University, along with their partners, will evaluate the new designs.
