General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics, has won a $63 million contract to develop, implement and maintain a healthcare billing system for the service branches, the company said Thursday.

The Armed Forces Billing and Collection Utilization Solution is intended to help the U.S. Army Medical Command, U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and U.S. Air Force Medical Service process different forms of health insurance.

“General Dynamics has provided billing and claims management and analytics expertise to the government and military health community for more than 30 years,” said Marcus Collier, senior vice president of General Dynamics Information Technology’s Health and Civilian Solutions division.

“We are proud to support the U.S. Army Medical Command as it leverages cloud computing to modernize its collections systems and facilitate better quality health care and improved outcomes for service members,” he added.

The new system is meant to be deployed at 136 military medical treatment facilities and will be a software-as-a-service using a cloud hosting solution.

The work for the task order, which is the first to be issued under the U.S. Army, Area Processing Centers, Army Private Cloud indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, will be done mainly in Herndon, Va.
