L-3 Communications‘ Unmanned Systems segment has launched its Airborne Pursuit and Exploitation unmanned aircraft system at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International’s Unmanned Systems 2014 conference held on May 12 to 15.
The company said May 5 the compact, all-electric APEX can be used in close-range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions and first responder and  urban warfare operations.
“APEX’s ability to be operated by a very small team and provide multi-mission and payload flexibility brings a new level of capability to expeditionary operators,” said J.R. Gear, vice president of strategic development at L-3 US.
According to L-3, a team of three can operate the the APEX UAS, which uses a Lithium Polymer battery system and can run for nearly seven hours covering more than 100 kilometers.
It also features a parachute recovery system and an electro-optical/cooled infrared gimbal payload.
