IntelLogo EbizKim Stevenson, chief information officer at Intel, says the company uses analytics software to organize sales and inventory data from sellers of Intel-powered devices, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

“If we know what’s going out their doors … we can do better supply and demand matching,” Stevenson told the newspaper Thursday in an interview.

WSJ reports that Intel analyzes its chip inventory by using machine learning algorithms on top of the company’s Hadoop database.

Stevenson’s IT group has also adapted machine-to-machine communications to help employees schedule meetings on their smartphones.

Intel equipped its conference rooms with motion sensors that are connected to a mobile booking application.

The app works to alert staff if a meeting facility is occupied or reserved and lists conference materials on wireless displays installed in the room, according to the article.

Stevenson says the goal is to boost productivity by saving at least five minutes of each meeting participants’ time every session.
