Booz Allen Hamilton has marked the first anniversary of its Strategic Innovation Group, which Executive Vice President and group head Karen Dahut said was launched last year to foster creativity and partnerships across the company with an aim to deliver new solutions and products.

“Booz Allen created the Strategic Innovation Group to capture the smart thinking that already existed across the firm, take the best new and compelling ideas and build solutions around them that will resonate across the entire spectrum of our clients,” Dahut said Monday.

Dahut added that the SIG, which had $40 million in initial investments, has leveraged its access to a global market to create opportunities for clients in both the public and private sectors locally and abroad despite the “fiscal constraints of the times.”

The firm has used the group to develop signal jamming technology to aid warfighters against remote-triggered bombs, biometric facial recognition software for identifying subjects despite disguises or obstructions.

Booz Allen has also designed a threat intelligence anticipatory service for clients to detect and respond to a cyberattack via alerts in near real time.

Other first-year highlights include collaborations with D.C.-based incubator 1776, and strategic alliances with Amazon, Microsoft and other technology vendors, the firm added.
