Boeing Co. and Embraer S.A. have signed a memorandum of understanding to perform biofuel research for Brazil’s aviation industry.
The companies will open and fund a research center where Boeing and Embraer will work with Brazilian universities and organizations to identify gaps in the aviation biofuel supply of the country, Boeing said Monday.
Julie Felgar, managing director of environmental strategy and integration within Boeing’s commercial airplanes business, said the companies intend to contribute to Brazil’s aviation biofuel industry through the research center.
“Brazil has tradition in the area of alternative fuels and enormous potential yet to be explored in bioenergy research,†added Mauro Kern, executive vice president of engineering and technology at Embraer.
The research center will be constructed in Sao Jose dos Campos Technology Park.
