A Huntington Ingalls Industries division has begun construction of the company’s fifth national security cutter ship for the U.S. Coast Guard.
Ingalls Shipbuilding plans to deliver the James cutter to the Coast Guard in 2015, Huntington Ingalls said Tuesday.
“Now we look forward to completing the construction so we can take her to sea next year,†said Jim McKinney, NSC 5 ship program manager for Ingalls Shipbuilding.
Ingalls Shipbuilding worked to transfer the ship to its dry dock, where James will float before the cutter moves to its berthing area to complete the construction.
The division is building three more cutters such as the Hamilton, Munro and Kimball.
