James Ellis Jr., a member of the Level 3 Communications board of directors for more than nine years, has been appointed chairman of the board following Walter Scott Jr.’s retirement.
“Jim brings more than 40 years of experience in managing and leading complex, technology-focused organizations to this appointment,” Jeff Storey, Level 3Â president and chief executive officer, said Friday.
Ellis, a retired U.S. Navy admiral with 35 years of military service, is also a member of the board’s Nominating and Governance Committee and heads the Classified Business and Security Committee.
He was previously a president and CEO of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations and a board member at Inmarsat, Lockheed Martin and Dominion Resources.
Ellis previously served as a commander of the U.S. Strategic Command, commander in chief of U.S. naval forces based in Europe and commander in chief of allied forces in southern Europe.
