Lockheed Martin’s aeronautics company has awarded Exelis an $8.4 million contract to build radio frequency systems for its F-16 fighter jets.
Clifton, N.J.-based Exelis will work to develop Continuous Wave Illuminator subsystems for the F-16 and deliver the products in 2017, Exelis said Monday.
Joe Rambala, vice president and general manager of Exelis’ integrated electronic warfare systems business, said the CWI subsystem is intended to help pilots perform their missions using electromagnetic spectrum.
The RF technology works with the F-16’s fire control radar and mission computer to detect targets.
Exelis designed the subsystem with high-voltage power supply, digital control, microwave signal production and power amplifier circuits.
