A new study from Chmura Economics & Analytics indicates that the Northern Virginia and Potomac region have continued to expand their big data footprints.
The Northern Virginia Technology Council, the George Washington University and Attain LLC released the report on the growth of big data assets in those areas, NVTC said Friday.
“As the research indicates, our business and academic communities have the resources to stimulate big data and analytics-driven economic development, demonstrate why others should invest or expand in the region, and further develop our region’s big data and analytics workforce,” said Bobbie Kilberg, president and CEO of NVTC.
Companies in Northern Virginia that responded to the survey said they produce 717 terabytes of data everyday and 87 percent of those firms reported ongoing or planned big data initiatives.
Seventy percent of respondent educational institutions in the region intend to offer big data and analytics programs in 2015.
Intelligence, national security, cybersecurity, healthcare and intra-regional sales drive the region’s big data ecosystem growth, according to the report.
