Carl Trowell, a former executive at oil and gas industry services provider Schlumberger, will join Ensco as CEO, president and a member of the board of directors on June 15.
Trowell will succeed the retiring Dan Rabun, who is staying as non-executive chairman after eight years as CEO to help in the transition, Ensco said Friday.
“Carl is a multi-talented executive with proven leadership, operations, technology and marketing expertise focused on the international energy services industry,” said Paul Rowsey, lead director of Ensco.
Before joining Ensco, Trowell was president of Schlumberger’s integrated project management segment, Schlumberger Production Management and Schlumberger WesternGeco.
He was also a petroleum engineer at Shell and has served in industry advisory boards for technology development and deployment.
Trowell holds a geology degree from Imperial College London, an M.B.A. from The Open University and a Ph.D. in earth sciences from the University of Cambridge.
