Boeing has teamed up with Samsung to identify ways of adding wireless connectivity features to a Boeing-built crew transport spacecraft.

The companies signed a partnership agreement during the 30th Space Symposium and seek to incorporate mobile tools into Boeing’s Crew Space Transportation-100 capsule, Boeing said Tuesday.

“Just as they’ve done on Earth, mobile tools and devices will enhance the way we operate in space day-to-day, making mission operations more efficient,” said Chris Ferguson, Boeing director for crew and mission operations.

“Like any other person doing his or her work, an astronaut values connectivity and the ability to share experiences,” Ferguson added.

Boeing designed the CST-100 under a NASA-run program that aims to support manned spaceflight missions in low-Earth orbit.

The CST-100 features a pressurized vessel and a LED lighting technology and is built to transport astronauts and cargo into space.
