Xerox has debuted a video analytics system intended to help state highway patrol officers identify the number of passengers in vehicles using special carpool lanes.
The Vehicle Passenger Detection System is built to track violators on high-occupancy vehicle and toll lanes at speeds up to 100 miles per hour, Xerox said Thursday.
Mark Cantelli, vice president and chief technology officer of Xerox’s government and transportation segment, said the company developed the technology to automate HOV/HOT lane monitoring.
The device uses geometric algorithm and visual analytic models for police to visually determine carpool violations, according to Xerox.
Xerox also intends for law enforcement agencies to manage traffic patterns and vehicle occupant statistics with the detection system.
