Raytheon-logoRaytheon has selected two schools within the Vail School District to receive a total of $37,000 in scholarship to promote engineering concepts and practices, Arizona Daily Star reported Thursday.

Alexis Huicochea writes that the award is part of the company’s $2 million Engineering is Elementary District Scholarship science, technology, engineering and math program.

Under the award, 25 teachers at Acacia and Esmond station schools will deliver Raytheon’s engineering course. They will be provided further education for professional development.

Students who will receive this training are expected to conduct their own experiments, data collection and problem solving through a five-step engineering design process, the report said.

Raytheon’s Engineering is Elementary curriculum was developed by the National Center for Technological Literacy from Boston’s Museum of Science.
