AirplaneThales will deliver in-flight entertainment and connectivity services to the airline industry by using Inmarsat‘s broadband satellite network Global Xpress.

Inmarsat has added Thales to its value-added reseller network to distribute Inmarsat’s GX Aviation and SwiftBroadband mobile satellite communications technology to aviation clients, Thales said Wednesday.

“Under this agreement more opportunities for airlines to access GX Aviation in packaged IFEC solutions,” said Miranda Mills, Inmarsat Aviation president.

The VAR contract is designed to help Thales provide a full IFEC suite comprised of hardware systems and Internet connection on passenger flights worldwide.

The GX Aviation K-band network is scheduled to enter commercial service in the first half of 2015.
