Operations and management issues remain an obstacle for those in the domestic power industry, a workforce challenge Day & Zimmermann addresses by offering clients options that use various delivery methods in an effort to increase labor availability, skill and management options, Power Magazine reported on Jan. 1.
The company holds training programs with trade schools and community colleges in cooperation with government agencies that can fund the instruction and development courses, said Mike McMahon, president of the engineering, construction and maintenance group at Day & Zimmermann.
“Power producers, contractors, and vendors must be flexible and readily adapt to changing market and economic decisions,†McMahon wrote in an article for the magazine.
“For Day & Zimmermann, this means we must deliver value that can be measured, including safety, project and labor management, and processes and tools that drive efficiency and reduce costs,†he added.
McMahon also emphasized the company’s alliances and partnerships in the power O&M and industrial markets, which it uses in an effort to pass best practices and lessons learned on to customers.
“We regularly share ideas and develop the best solutions together… establish KPIs or pay-for-performance measures.. to help improve the process and the work product,” McMahon said.
