VerizonLogo1 EbizVerizon has implemented a 100-gigabit Ethernet technology across its U.S. metropolitan and regional infrastructures in response to increased demand for bandwidth and cloud services.

The company used Fujitsu‘s FLASHWAVE packet optical networking platform and Tellab 7100 optical transport system for the network upgrade, Verizon said Tuesday.

Lee Hicks, Verizon vice president of network planning, said the 100G metro deployment is meant to bring the same efficiency as the long-haul network.

Verizon says it intends to address growing online video usage with the 100G technology and expand deployment as traffic demand increases.

To date, the company has deployed 39,000 miles of 100G interface on its Internet Protocol network globally.
