IBM has selected a record number of company scientists and researchers from the U.S., Canada, Switzerland and Germany to receive the IBM Fellow honor, the company’s highest technical distinction.
The 11 new Fellows will work to carry out the company’s Technology Ambassador Initiative, a program intended to drive growth through innovation, IBM announced Tuesday.
“The 2014 IBM Fellows join a distinguished group of leaders in science and technology, not only in our own company, but in our industry and academia,” said Ginni Rometty, IBM chairman, president and CEO.
“They are innovators at the forefront of data, analytics, cloud, mobile and the other historic technical innovations that are changing business and society today.”
IBM Fellows work on areas such as brain-inspired cognitive computing, security platforms, business database and analytics, cloud computing, enterprise storage facilities and computational science.
Since the honor’s inception, IBM has awarded 257 employees with the honor and 87 of them are still with the company.
The 2014 Fellows are Sandy Bird, Rhonda Childress, Alessandro Curioni, Tamar Eilam, Michael Haydock, Namik Hrle, Dharmendra Modha, Aleksandra Mojsilovic, Krishna Ratakonda, Shivakumar Vaithyanathan and Andrew Walls.
