Harris Corp. has completed a series of interoperability tests on Falcon III manpack radios that host a waveform the company has developed for a U.S. military satellite communications system.
“This milestone puts us on schedule to release the MUOS waveform through a software upgrade to the combat-proven AN/PRC-117G terminal next year,†George Helm, president of Harris RF Communications‘ Defense Department business, said Thursday.
“DoD has already fielded more than 30,000 of these MUOS-ready terminals,” Helm added.
Harris and DoD evaluated the MUOS waveform at a testing facility in Sunnyvale, Calif. that includes a ground station, satellite payload and simulators that work to demonstrate the waveform in different scenarios.
Lockheed Martin, the MUOS program’s prime contractor, designed the system to deliver voice and data services to users via satellite.
The company also works as systems integrator for the program and operates the Sunnyvale MUOS Test Radio Access Facility for the government.
