Dell has launched a new suite of notebook computers designed for harsh environment usage in military, emergency, manufacturing settings.
The Latitude Rugged Extreme notebooks are made of impact-resistant materials and built with Intel‘s fourth-generation Core processors, a solid-state drive and optional discrete graphics, Dell said Tuesday.
Kirk Schell, Dell vice president of commercial personal computers and client solutions, said the company developed the rugged portable computers to also address reliability and security issues.
According to the company, a Latitude notebook’s infrastructure is customized to withstand moisture, dust, vibration and extreme temperatures.
Other features include resistive multi-touch technology, a convertible display, webcams with privacy shutter and SSD capacity of up to 512 gigabytes.
Dell says third-party organizations tested the computers against military standards for ingress and drop protection, emissions and hazardous materials.
