Boeing and NRG Energy have partnered to build a solar plant in Dandan, Guam that will be designed to deliver up to 25 megawatts of locally-based renewable energy.
Boeing will provide construction, procurement and engineering services to the project with the goal of helping Guam achieve its clean energy goals by 2015, NRG Energy said March 4.
The Guam Power Authority will acquire power from the facility over 25 years to supply electricity to as many as 10,000 households.
According to NRG Energy, the GPA aims to generate more than $300 million in fuel cost savings through the project.
NRG Energy says the plant will be constructed to reduce more than 40,000 metric tons of carbon equivalents per year.
