BAE Systems has launched a mobile application for Google Glass devices, smartphones and tablets that collects geospatial intelligence data and generates photo reports from the field, with potential uses for reconnaissance and disaster relief.
The GXP Xplorer Snap app showcased at the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation’s annual GEOINT Symposium leverages crowdsourcing for information gathering and sharing.
“This simple, wearable technology will revolutionize situational awareness and incident response capabilities for police, fire, and other first responders,” said DeEtte Gray, president of BAE Systems’ intelligence and security unit.
“The technology benefits pilots by delivering imagery and mission critical data directly through the hands-free device.”
GXP Xplorer Snap users can take photos and voice-record a report title and description, which is geotagged, time-stamped and uploaded to a server for sharing across an organization.
Its release for Google Glass is scheduled later this year, but an iOS– and Android-compatible version can already be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
