IBMÂ has moved to help address healthcare technology demand in the U.S. public sector market through a series of investments into the company’s federal healthcare practice.
The company has launched Watson-based big data services for clinical care and data management initiatives with its research arm and appointed Keith Salzman as chief medical information officer, IBM said Thursday.

“Government leaders recognize that there is a tremendous opportunity to combine new and existing data sources with advancements in technology to find innovative ways to build a sustainable and affordable healthcare system,†said Anne Altman, general manager of IBM’s U.S. federal business.
Federal healthcare customers will have access to IBM’s cognitive computing services in order to gather and analyze clinical data.
IBM has also incorporated clinical, social and behavioral data into its Advanced Care Insights offering for healthcare providers.
