Data from consulting firm Altman Weil shows that a record 88 law firms entered into merger deals in 2013, the Washington Post reported Monday.
Catherin Ho writes the consultant firm released statistics last week showing that 22 industry merger and acquisition deals were announced in the first quarter of 2014 and 82 percent of the transactions involved companies that employ 15 or fewer lawyers.
During the previous quarter, Washington-based Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll merged with Leopold Law of Florida and Newark-based McCarter & English acquired D.C.-based Miller Balis & O’Neil.
The Post also reports that McDermott Will & Emery, which employs 450 staff members in Washington, formed a subsidiary that will offer consulting services in the policy analysis, health care lobbying and data analytics areas.
