Turner Construction has partnered with Howard University to hold an eight-week course on construction management for 200 students with the goal of helping prepare them to work in the subcontracting market.
The Turner School of Construction Management course is a partnership project with the DC Small Business Development Center and will run at the university for free from March 19 to May 14, the company announced Friday.
The TSCM course, to be taught by Turner employees and industry partners, is intended to teach contractors how to propose and work with large general contractors.
This year’s course will cover issues such as setting up a business, construction and the law, project delivery systems, contract risk management, project planning and safety, banking and accounting and project management and paperwork.
Last year’s TSCM had 101 graduates and was held in both Prince George’s County, Md. and Richmond, Va.
