Serco will continue its air navigation services for the Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, and offer air traffic control personnel training, under a $11.6 million contract with the Sharjah Civil Aviation Department.
The company will also support the upgrade of the air traffic control tower and planning for a new runway, Serco said Wednesday.
According to David Greer, Serco CEO for the Middle East, India and Africa regions, these services are in support of the development and growth of the Sharjah airport.
“Our collaboration with Serco will ensure smooth aircraft movements as well as full compliance to matters of safety at the airport, especially during aircraft landing and takeoff,” said Sheikh Khalid bin Essam Al Qasimi, chairman of the Sharjah Civil Aviation.
He noted the training that Serco will provide for potential air traffic controllers and assistant air traffic controllers will equip UAE citizens with the knowledge and skills for future important positions.
Serco has been partnering with Sharjah Airport since 1947.
