Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon‘s space and airborne systems unit has been awarded $22.9 million in contracts to help install multispectral sensor systems on U.S. military helicopters and airplanes, Avionics Intelligence reported Sunday.

John Keller writes the company will fit the Multispectral Targeting System on U.S. Navy Sikorsky MH-60 helicopter and on the U.S. Air Force HC/MC-130J turboprop fixed-wing aircraft.

MTS has cameras that work to use color daylight and infrared light, sensors, illuminators, eyesafe rangefinders and other technology for surveillance, tracking, target acquisition and laser designation.

The anti-submarine and anti-ship MH-60 is built for vertical replenishment and medical evacuation, while the HC-130J and MC-130J is used by special operations forces for helicopter refueling and combat search and rescue.

Work will occur in McKinney, Texas, while Raytheon aims to complete the MH-60 project by July 2015 and the HC/MC-130J work by April 2015.
