Parsons‘ joint venture with engineering and consulting group Systra has won a design consultancy services contract for the Qatar Long Distance Railway Network, which will carry cargo and passengers within Qatar and to adjacent countries.
The 248.5-mile railway will connect Qatar to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council rail network and the under-construction Doha Metro, Parsons said Thursday.
“This design consultancy project is of strategic importance to the State of Qatar in meeting its national vision, and we look forward to working with Qatar Railways Company to begin work on the project early this year,” said Guy Mehula, president of the Middle East and Africa division of Parsons.
The railway network includes six freight facilities and seven passenger stations.
Parsons’ MEA presence covers major highways, hospitals, airports and other infrastructure in Oman, United Arab Emirates and the three aforementioned countries.
