Bae-systems-logo_ExecutiveBiz1BAE Systems has developed a mobile application to help engineers and other personnel navigate the construction work zones on the British navy’s Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers.

Platform Navigation works to scan quick response tags located in the warship’s more than 3,000 compartments and find the best route for a tour inside the vessels, BAE said Wednesday.

Mick Ord, BAE managing director of naval ships, said the app is designed to provide shipyard employees more visibility for complex work environments.

“These are the largest and most powerful warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy so we need to keep finding smarter, safer and more efficient ways of working,” he added.

The company built the navigation system to work in a variety of mobile devices and for use by other large construction projects.

Engineers can also use the platform to record inspections at hospital or underground transport construction sites, according to BAE.
