John Hopkins APL logoEight collegiate cyber defense teams will participate in the 2014 National CyberWatch Center Mid-Atlantic Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition next week at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland.

JHUAPL said Wednesday that this year’s simulated scenario will have professional security experts pose as cyber terrorists and conduct attacks intended to disturb relief efforts of a disaster aid distribution center, which each team will work to protect

“The CCDC is unlike other cybersecurity challenges because we give the students a real-world, hands-on experience of managing a high-stakes situation,” said Lewis Lightner, director of the National CyberWatch Center, which will run the mid-Atlantic CCDC March 26 through 29.

Competing teams include Anne Arundel Community College, Liberty University, University of Maryland – Baltimore County, West Virginia University, Towson University, Radford University, Capitol College and Millersville University.

The winner will then compete at the Raytheon National CCDC in San Antonio from April 25 to 27.
