Jerry Jason, a former NASA flight director for the International Space Station, has been appointed vice president of spacecraft operations and engineering at EchoStar Corp. subsidiary EchoStar Satellite Services LLC.
Jason will handle flight operations, engineering and analysis functions for the company’s 23 owned, leased and managed spacecraft, the company said Tuesday.
He will also be responsible for control systems infrastructure, telemetry and tracking.
Derek de Bastos, ESS chief technology officer, will actason’s direct supervisor.
Jason previously spent 18 years in the mission operations directorate at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and served as flight controller for more than 30 missions.
As ISS flight director, he led efforts to complete two ISS missions — ISS Expeditions 23 and 24– and two automated transfer vehicle resupply missions.
