General Dynamics’ information systems division has integrated its open architecture computing infrastructure into the U.S. Navy’s newly-minted Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship.
The company’s open architecture is built to function as the core mission system for the USS Jackson, which was christened at the Austal shipyard in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday, General Dynamics said Monday.
Carlo Zaffanella, vice president and general manager of integrated platform services at General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, said the open architecture computing is intended to help upgrade and switch the ship’s mission features.
USS Jackson is the Navy’s third Independence-variant ship and is based on technology used to help develop previous Littoral Combat Ships.
General Dynamics served as systems integrator for the Austal USA-led team that developed the USS Jackson.
