A General Atomics business unit has been awarded a $57.5 million contract to upgrade the U.S. Air Force’s unmanned aerial vehicle ground control software for Internet networking, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Thursday.
John Keller writes that General Atomics Aeronautical Systems will provide the software updates for UAV control stations at Creech Air Force Base, Nev. and Cannon Air Force Base, N.M.
Controllers at integrated locations receive mission tasks from UAV pilots through Internet Protocol-based satellite connections, according to the report.
Keller writes General Atomics will develop its for ground control stations, dual-control segments, Quadron Operations Center low-density, wide-area network kits and network management functions, among others.
General Atomics will perform the work at its Poway, Calif.-based facility until the end of 2015.
