medical imaging systemExelis and NIRF Imaging have signed an exclusive teaming agreement to develop and market a near-infrared fluorescence imaging technology for point-of-care diagnostic applications.

The companies will integrate Exelis-made image intensifier tubes into NIRF’s medical technology in order to produce a new tool tool for imaging patients’ lymphatic system, Exelis said Monday.

Exelis’ Pinnacle intensification technology is primarily used to develop military night vision goggles, the company said.

“This is another example of the Exelis commitment to expand our advanced technologies to global markets outside of the defense business,” said Dave Smith, vice president and general manager of Exelis’ night vision segment.

According to Exelis, the imaging system will be designed to help physicians conduct lymphatic tests without exposing patients to radiation-associated risks.
