Boeing collaborated with Wipro, HCL Technologies and the Indian Institute of Science to develop a wireless antenna and sensor system for commercial and noncommercial aircraft, CIOL reported Monday.
The India-based Aerospace Network Research Consortium built the compact energy-gathering system to reduce airplane weight, fuel and power usage.
Mike Sinnett, vice president of product development at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said research and development partnerships like these work to drive engineering innovation in India.
“We are excited to see the results of proof-of-concepts and are keen to scale-up the application of research findings across multiple industries,” said Narayan Shenoy, general manager of product engineering services at Wipro.
ANRC has also developed a wireless data transmission system for sending mobile phone messages from rural to urban areas.
