BAE Systems worked with the U.S. and British military forces to conduct a piloted flight simulation trial of technology that works to provide navigational and maneuvering aid to fixed-wing aircraft landing on aircraft carrier vessels.
The company said Monday it has been developing the Shipborne Rolling Vertical Landing technology for the F-35 short takeoff and vertical landing variant, which the U.K. plans to use on the future Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
Arrested recovery trials on the F-35 carrier variant took took place on a Nimitz-class carrier at the company’s simulation facility in Warton, U.K.
Tests for the F35B STOVL variant’s SRVL recovery features on the QEC aircraft carriers are planned soon, BAE says.
