SafeNet Inc. has introduced a new data breach directory website for security departments to categorize an attack’s severity level and compare the resulting analyses with other breach incidents.
The SafeNet Breach Level Index portal is developed to serve as a database of various breach disclosures and classifications based on numerical scoring of an organization’s breach event, SafeNet said Tuesday.
Prakash Panjwani, senior vice president and general manager of data protection at SafeNet, said the portal is intended to help monitor and differentiate insecure from secure data breaches where the information is encrypted.
Chief information and security officers have access to the website in order to assess risks and plan mitigation procedures, says SafeNet.
The database contains records of more than 1,000 data breach incidents and 575 million data losses in 2013 that have affected several industries such as healthcare, government, finance, retail and technology.
SafeNet worked with analyst firm IT-Harvest to develop algorithms for classifying the level of breach severity in 2013.
