Rockwell Collins has introduced a new atmospheric threat detection technology offering for air transit customers.
The MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar is built with the Predictive Overflight protection system to warn pilots and crews about hail and lightning threats along an aircraft’s flight path, Rockwell Collins said Tuesday.
Steve Timm, vice president and general manager of air transport systems at Rockwell Collins, said the company worked with Boeing to validate the radar system, which is intended to help pilots navigate through turbulent weather conditions.
MultiScan ThreatTrack features severe and ride-quality levels of detection to notify flight crews about the turbulence type.
The technology is scheduled to be certified for Boeing 777 aircraft in March.
