A navigation system co-developed by Raytheon, the Airports Authority of India and Indian Space Research Organization has been certified for operational use in the country’s civil airspace.
The GPS-Aided Geo Augmented Navigation system is designed to help with air navigation and flight-path planning, Raytheon said Thursday.
Brian Hickey, director of Raytheon Navigation and Landing Systems, said India plans to use the GAGAN tool for airlines, passengers and air traffic authorities.
GAGAN signals are designed to be transmitted by Satellite Based Augmentation System receivers through 15 reference stations, uplink and master control stations and software connected to two C- and L-band Geostationary Earth Orbit satellites.
The system is the fourth SBAS system to receive the Required Navigation Performance 0.1 certification.
