Lockheed Martin has worked to modify its missile defense analytics technology for early detection of sepsis, a potentially fatal blood condition.
The Sia analytic framework was tested on 4,500 patients and the technology identified sepsis conditions 90 percent of the time during the trial, Lockheed said Monday.
“Lockheed Martin took insights from real-time, streaming sensor data, detecting missiles at mach speeds, and reapplied those same techniques to real-time patient data,†said Melanie Lang, Lockheed’s business development lead within the information systems and global services.
Sia works to track signal changes in the body and detect anomalies.
“Vitals and lab data are, essentially, continuously updated streams of information – just like missile signals detected by our defense systems,” Long said.
Lockheed also intends for Sia to help predict heart attacks.
