IntelLogo EbizIntel has launched a new processor family as an update from a previous generation with additional features designed to process large amounts of data and identify insights for business strategies.

The Xeon processor E7 v2 processor family is built with a memory capacity of up to 1.5 terabytes per socket and works to support to 15 processing cores, Intel said Tuesday.

Other E7 v2 technology is designed to achieve higher input-output bandwidth than the previous versions, according to Intel.

“Organizations that leverage data to accelerate business insights will have a tremendous edge in this economy,” said Diane Bryant, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s data center group.

The company cites the need for big data analysis and projected growth of the Internet of Things as factors organizations should consider, with more devices and people connected to a network and generating large amounts of data.

Intel lists manufacturers and analytics software vendors such as Cisco, IBM, Oracle and Red Hat as partners that will integrate or support Intel Xeon processor E7 v2-based platforms.
