Verizon has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to run the company’s remote health-monitoring technology on the iOS mobile operating system run by Apple devices such as iPhones and iPads.
The company said Tuesday the Converged Health Management platform is built to help reduce hospital readmissions by helping clinicians, healthcare providers and health insurance to monitor at-home patients’ health and care compliance.
“Verizon would like to continue to build an ecosystem of devices to create a diverse network of meaningful mobile health experiences that connect clinicians and their patients so they can be cared for in new and more effective ways,†said Julie Kling, director of mobile health.
The platform is built to help address how patient records ree exchanged between the healthcare parties through voice, video and data using cloud, machine-to-machine and mobility technologies.
Blood glucose monitors from Genesis and Telcare have also been added to the platform’s biometric devices, which include a pulse oximeter and weight scale.
