SIEMENS logo_ExecutiveBizSiemens’ smart grid division has launched a new distribution management system that is intended to help customers in North America meet business and regulatory requirements.

The Spectrum Power ADMS (advanced distribution management system) is built to integrate supervisory control and data acquisition, outage management and fault and network analysis operations into a software platform, Siemens said Tuesday.

Jan Mrosik, CEO of Siemens’ smart grid division, said the company aims for the new offering to aid North American clients in addressing distribution management demands and expanding the smart grid.

Network operators will work to monitor distribution networks, detect faulty points, isolate and fix system disruptions, perform maintenance tasks, predict outages and manage distributed energy sources through the Spectrum Power ADMS.

The technology works with other architectures such as geographic information and meter data management systems, according to the company.

Siemens intends for grid operators to use the Spectrum Power system’s tools to fulfill standards requirements from the North American Electric Reliability Corp. - Critical Infrastructure Protection or the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
