IBM plans to introduce a new server architecture for cloud computing and big data environments as the company seeks new market opportunities, Tech Target reported Thursday.
Ed Scannell and Beth Pariseau write the X6 systems is built around a “mid-plane architecture†based on Intel’s QuickPath Internconnect technology for memory-to-memory data transfer.
The new server technology features an Intel processor and dual in-line memory modules, central processing unit-equipped Compute Book with up to 24 DIMMs and a Storage Book with up to 6.4 terabytes of xFlash storage capacity, according to the report.
The system works to identify and fix system failures and help information technology professionals to perform various system management tasks using virtual tools, the report says.
CPUs are built to access system memory through point-to-point connections by using the QPI system, Tech Target reports.
