looking at computersGeneral Electric‘s intelligent platforms business has won a contract to provide the U.S. Air Force an embedded neuromorphic computing platform for use in wide-area surveillance applications, Military Aerospace & Electronics reported Thursday.

The publication reports the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome, N.Y. selected a GE infrastructure that mimics human’s neuro-biological actions in order to help military users process radar information.

Mark Barnell, an AFRL senior computer scientist, said the branch aims to design neural computing models to manage intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data by using the GE technology.

GE’s HPEC system is built with a scalable architecture and an NVIDIA-made graphics processing unit accelerator, according to the article.

The technology will support the branch’s synthetic aperture radar system that is intended to detect targets behind trees, bushes and shrubs, according to the report.
