Exelis-logo, ExecutiveMosaicExelis has completed upgrade work on an encryption software for the ground operational control system of the GPS satellite constellation.

The OCX MUG software is built to help controllers on the ground to adjust and monitor a satellite’s positioning while in orbit, Exelis said Thursday.

Exelis designed the technology to configure spacecraft payloads and manage navigation data generated by GPS satellites.

Drew Trainor, a program manager at Exelis’ geospatial systems business, said the company intends for civilian and military users to have more accurate and secure GPS signals.

According to the company, GPS OCX incorporates an anti-jam technology and is meant to operate with other global satellite-based navigation platforms.

Exelis is also building simulation software, encryptors and receivers for the program under a subcontract awarded by Raytheon in February 2010.
