Exelis will update the carriage and release systems on the U.S. Navy‘s fleet of AV-8B Harrier aircraft under a contract worth more than $13 million.
The company will develop 181 digital improved triple ejector rack units for the plane’s current carriage and release technology, the company said Thursday.
Pete Martin, director of defense systems for Exelis’ electronic attack and release systems business unit, said the upgraded system is intended to help Harrier operators deliver payloads and achieve mission goals.
Twenty of those units will be transported to Spain, a member of the Navy-led joint international program.
The DITER systems will be built at the Amityville, N.Y.-based Exelis electronic systems facility and the products are scheduled for delivery between mid-2015 and March 2016.
