att logoAT&T has signed a multi-year deal to provide high-speed wireless Internet service in Tesla‘s line of electric cars.

Tesla will utilize AT&T technology to help drivers and passengers access in-car remote engine monitoring, telematics and multimedia services via a touchscreen display, AT&T said Tuesday.

“It’s an honor to work with a company as innovative as Tesla on delivering a connected experience inside automobiles for both drivers and passengers,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T’s mobility business.

AT&T has opened an innovation center in Atlanta that will showcase mobile connectivity platforms for automobile makers.

The company also unveiled a modular platform intended to help developers build technology to enable wireless communications in cars.

It is called AT&T Drive and includes cuztomizable connectivity and billing offerings as well as data analytics.
